GENERAL DIRECTIONS OF USAGE
How do I apply the Clear Out?
- Dry your face and neck with a clean towel. If you haven’t been using the bottle for sometime (and we can’t imagine why!), shake it well for about 10 seconds. Apply 1-2 pumps of the lotion on your middle finger and carefully dab the lotion on the affected areas of your face and neck. Gently massage the areas with both middle fingers until the lotion gets absorbed in your skin. (You may want to try applying in a small affected area only for a few days to test if your skin is sensitive to the medication.)
- Repeat the regime nightly. If there is slight irritation or drying, try applying the lotion on alternate nights instead. If the irritation or drying persists after a week or gets worse, please stop the application immediately and contact us via Facebook Messenger.
Where do I store my Clearly lotions?
What kind of cleanser can I use?
Q. What kind of cleanser can I use? A. If you already have a cleanser that you are comfortable with, take a look and see if it contains salicylic acid (sometimes referred to as 2-hydroxybenzoic acid, BHA) or glycolic acid (AHA). It is best to stop using such cleansers during the purging phase as they may aggravate your skin when used in tandem with your Clearly lotion. Exfoliators and scrubs should also be avoided during this initial phase. When your skin starts to get accustomed to the prescription lotion, you can start to use these products again with caution.
If you want to be on the safe side, look for cleansers that are such as the Neostrata Clarifying Facial Cleanser (not the Neostrata Clarifying Cleanser, which contains salicylic acid) that are specially formulated to be used with retinoid therapy.
Q. Can I use this together with my moisturizer, peel or other skin products? A. You can use your Clearly lotion with your other products, but do take caution when using products with AHA,BHA, salicylic acid, glycolic acid as your skin may be sensitive to these products. Some over-the-counter professional peels contain a high concentration of salicylic acid and we would not recommend stopping the use of your Clearly lotion the night after your peel.
Q. Are there any makeup products that I should avoid while using lotions from Clearly? A. Generally for those with acne, t is best to avoid using makeup that is oil-based as this can clog your pores. We also recommend reducing the use of makeup when you are experiencing peeling, especially foundation powders which may be drying to the skin. If you are concerned about presentation, consider using a tinted moisturizer as these tend to be less heavy on your skin.
Q. Your lotion is causing irritation to my skin! OR Your lotion is making my acne worse! Should I stop using it? A. If your Clearly lotion contains tretinoin or retinol, these two ingredients accelerate the shedding of dead skin inside the pore. This is commonly called a “purge” as the two ingredients will open up and push out dead skin and microcomedones that were building up inside the pore. This process usually lasts 6-8 weeks. After the purge, you will see that your skin would start clearing up and the overall skin condition improve.
As it is with any new product, it would be wise to introduce it to your skin slowly with smaller amounts or using it every other day so that any adverse side effects can be better managed. If you are experiencing extreme rawness and sensitivity of the skin, please stop using the medication immediately and let us know via Facebook messenger so that we can advise you accordingly.
Q. Your lotion isn’t doing anything for me! What on earth is going on? A. “Derm” wasn’t built in a day! ; ) It can take up to 3 months to see noticeable results. We are with you every step of the way and will monitor/adjust the your formulation as necessary.
Q. My face is suddenly very itchy/swollen/painful. Can I come into a physical clinic? A. Your safety is our greatest priority and we take great care in prescribing medication based on the medical history questionnaire that you have answered. There can always be unfortunate incidents where you may have an unknown allergy to some of the ingredients in your Clearly lotion.
Clearly is not able to attend to medical emergencies and it is advisable to consult with a walk-in clinic or head to the nearest hospital A&E if the situation is serious. Do message us as well on Facebook messenger so that we are aware of your situation and can help to follow up as well.
You can also see the Dermatologist you have been consulting with via Clearly in his/her physical clinic. Please be advised normal clinic fees would be applicable.
Q. Can I use my lotion on my body? A. The lotion is specially formulated for your face and neck only. The skin on your back or chest is thicker and best treated with a different formulation.
Q. Will Clearly give me 100% clear skin? A. The formulations that we have for treating your acne and anti-aging are well proven to be effective. However, as medication can have different effects on different individuals, it is not possible to guarantee that all our patients would experience the same results. It is our commitment to treat your skin problems with diligence and care.
Q. Should I pop that pimple? A. No! You might think that squeezing gets rid of the pus and “cleans” the pimple but that isn’t the case. It’s also usually painful to do so and you are likely to cause more swelling due to infection. Squeezing pimples may also cause pus and bacteria to inflame the surrounding tissue, leading to permanent scars that are not easily removed.
